Back to Hay

Last week was a typical cold winter week. And as the temperatures keep dropping and staying lower more consistently, the time comes to start feeding hay.

The guys and I got out the four-wheelers and gathered the calves and some bred-heifers from Violet’s. The morning was frigid and with a slight breeze my gloves weren’t quite enough. Thankfully, sort of, there was some hiking to do to get around everything and it gave my hands a little time to warm up.

Once the sun was bit higher the chill wasn’t so bad. We got everything back to the corrals, sorted the heifer calves from the steer calves and bred heifers and as the sun went down we got the steers and breds to their spot in the school section to eat the hay the guys had scattered the day before.

The next day the heifer calves were bangs-vaccinated and then put on feed to keep gaining through the cold winter months ahead.

Please stay warm out there. You probably won’t hear from us next week as we will be getting ready for Christmas. We hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and and you will hear from us the following week.
